From losingest team to longest game, the Philadelphia Phillies are World Series champions.

Ah......Nobody really cares.

The weather associated with the World Series was more interesting than the colossal match-up between the Philadelphia Phillies and the Tampa Bay Rays. Definitely a snoozer for Major League Baseball this year.

Update: This was the lowest-rated World Series ever. The series averaged 13.6 million viewers, down 14% from the last five-game series in 2006. Compared to last year, the Series was down 20%. Among adults 18-49, the Series averaged a 4.4 rating, down 21%. The Series also included the lowest-rated game ever -- Game 3 was the least-watched Series outing since Nielsen started tracking the Championships in 1968.

Daly taken into custody after being found drunk outside Hooters

WINSTON-SALEM N.C. -- Golfer John Daly was taken into custody Sunday morning by Winston-Salem police after he was found drunk outside an area Hooters restaurant.

Police said in a statement Wednesday that said officers went to the restaurant on a medical call. When they arrived, Daly was being treated by emergency workers after losing consciousness.

While at the restaurant, police said Daly "appeared extremely intoxicated and uncooperative," refused repeatedly to be taken to the hospital and was asked to leave the restaurant by several workers.

Daly was taken to the Forsyth County Law Enforcement Detention Center for a 24-hour stay, until he was sober.

Bear's Boys

Have the days of Bear Ball finally gone by the wayside? The University of Alabama has finally looked away from Bear's Boys with the hiring of Nick Saban and are now reaping the rewards of that change in strategery.

See the flow chart (credit SallyStansbury at SixPackSpeak.com) pertaining to the offensive strategy and play calling of Jackie Sherrill and Sylvester Croom at Mississippi State. The Bear was able to line up much better players than the other guy and run it down their throats while playing lights-out damn good defense.
When Sherrill was successful at State he had NFL caliber offensive linemen and put almost entire defensive rosters into the NFL.

Sylvester Croom's offenses have been absolutely terrible and this team is now made up 100% of his recruit. I don't think it takes five years to install an offense. Just take a look at the stats below (credit vhdawg on SixPackSpeak.com for the legwork):

The World's Worst Weather

Here is a webcam image and weather observations for this morning at Mt Washington, NH. Note the extreme temperatures and wind on the summit conditions and the near white-out conditions indicated by the web cam.

I don't know about you, but I am ready to suit up in my cold weather gear and experience the weather at the summit of Mt. Washington! The Mt. Washington Observatory does hire meteorologists to take weather observations, forecast for the local area, and to conduct educational outreach for the Mt. Washington Observatory. Definitely a cool (maybe cold, chilly, frigid) job for a young meteorologist right out of college.

Andrew Hatch Suffers Injury

LSU QB Trouble: The Hatch/Lee dual QB experiment at LSU has ended, at least for now. Andrew Hatch has suffered a fractured bone in his leg. Hatch is reportedly on crutches and will be out for a few weeks.

In his absence, LSU's coaching staff is preparing true freshman QB Jordan Jefferson for this weekend's game against Tulane.

Without Hatch's running, it will be interesting to see if LSU puts Jefferson in the game in the "change of pace" role to compliment the passing of Jarrett Lee.

World Series Game 5 Postponed

Last night, Game 5 of the World Series was postponed due to rain during the top of the 6th inning with the game tied 2-2. This obviously keeps the Tampa Bay Devil Rays (I know that they are now called the Rays, I just like keeping the "Devil" in things) alive in the Series, albeit on life support.

It is interesting to note that MLB Commissioner Bud Selig stated that all three of the weather forecast services to which MLB subscribes indicated that the rain would be abating during the evening, therefore the decision to go ahead and play the game.

The game is schedule to resume on Wednesday evening at 8:37pm EDT due to continued rain mixed with some snow today. Here is the NWS forecast for Philadelphia for the next two days:

This Afternoon: Rain, possibly mixed with snow. Steady temperature around 39. Windy, with a west wind around 26 mph, with gusts as high as 41 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. Total daytime snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

Tonight: A chance of showers, mainly before midnight. Cloudy, with a low around 35. Breezy, with a west wind between 16 and 24 mph, with gusts as high as 38 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

Wednesday: A slight chance of showers after 2pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 51. West wind between 15 and 17 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Wednesday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 36. West wind between 6 and 9 mph.

Fulmer out at Tennessee?

An update to Copernicus Lombardi's comments from this morning:

The 3rd Saturday in Blogtober is reporting that Phil Fulmer will not be retained at the end of the season.

Now let the speculation about his replacement begin!

Weather Hodgepodge: Snow flurries are being reported in Crossville, TN this morning. How about that shit? I'd bet you one dollar that this will be a cold winter in the South.

New Auburn Coaching Candidate? It's also being reported that Tommy Tuberville is hoping to find someone good at running the "Spread Offense" - which relies on spreading it wide and occasionally taking deep shots down the middle.

I know, I know...Pic foul!! But we're trying to keep this blog relatively safe for work. At least I think we are. I need to check with Supreme Blog Overlord Fred Garvin on that...

Rocky Top Report: Phillip Fulmer is in deep shit, but this will get interesting towards the end of the season. Losing to Georgia, Alabama, and Florida in the same season is excusable. Losing BADLY to all three of those squads is not. Throw in some fan apathy as a result of Fulmer's long tenure, and most think the jig is up for Phil.

However, look at their remaining games: @South Carolina, vs. Wyoming, @Vanderbilt, vs. Kentucky. Even in their weakened state, Tennessee will likely be favored in three of those contests.

Should the Vols pull it out at South Carolina this weekend, I think there's a good chance UT could win 7 and make a bowl. Probably not enough to save his job, but I do think it's enough to make the debate interesting.

I think the South Carolina game is pivotal for Tennessee's head coach. If he loses that one, I can see UT ending it next week - simply because they want to do it now before the Vols play very winnable games. It'd be a lot harder to fire him if they win out.

If I had to predict now, I'd say there is a 20% chance Phillip Fulmer is coaching at Tennessee next year.

Rumor, Hearsay, Back-Fence Talk, Innuendo, Scuttlebutt, Gossip....

There are a few rumors going around that are associated with the Mississippi State and University of Memphis Football Programs:

-That Tommy West is out at the University of Memphis and either former Mississippi State head coach Jackie Sherrill or former University of Southern Mississippi head coach Jeff Bower will be taking over at Memphis.

-That Mississippi State Offensive Coordinator Woody McCorvey will be stepping down due to health reasons (not to mention his offense is on life support) and will be replaced by former Auburn Offensive Coordinator Al Borges.

-That the money folks at Mississippi State will be asking for Sylvester Croom to get rid of the majority of his assistants. Croom is fiercly loyal to his assistants, so if he isn't willing to let them go then he can go with them.

These are simply unconfirmed rumors and nothing more than just a fun topic of discussion. Desperate times call for desperate measures.....now discuss!
